My name is Samuel Dobesh, and I'm a student at Western Washington University, studying design, music, and web development. I do private freelance work, as well as contracted work for multiple companies. Most of this includes logo design, advertisement design, product development, and catalogue layouts. As a musician, I've given private lessons for about 10 years, and have rigorously studied music theory for the past 5. I play in multiple bands, such as "Apollo and the Rockets" and the WWU Jazz Big Band 1. I primarily play Electric and Double Bass, and feel comfortable instructing most instruments on styles such as classical, jazz, or soul.
I have worked in logo and product design for about 2 years. I have worked as a freelance artist for multiple photographers, multiple bands, and a handful of companies such as an engraving bussiness. I have also worked as in an house design assistant at Northside Shoes. While I was there I worked on product photography, product design, prototype requests, catologues, as well as social media and advertisement content. I am lucky enough to currently work for Northside from home, primarily editting catalogue photos. I am fluent in the Adobe Creative Suite, primarily Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I also use a number of open source programs such as Krita, Inkscape, Gimp, Blender, Appleseed, and Luxrender.
I have played Music for most of my life, and seriously for the past 11. I have studied theory and technique under teachers such as Jon Hamar of the University of Tenessee, and Greg Feingold of Western Washington University. I have experience playing in combos, symphonies, jazz bands, and contemporary music. I play currently in my own band, "Apollo and the Rockets", as well as the WWU Jazz Big Band 1. I have taken multiple classes on web development and general programming at WWU. I have designed portfolio sites for chefs, dog trainers, and photographers, as well as advised on many other projects. I'm fluent in HTML, CSS3, JS, JQuery, Php, and SQL databases. Although not directly applicable to web design, I am also comfortable in C++ and Python. All of this has given me great insight to working collabratively with computer science technicians on digital projects.
I have always had an interest in art since a very young age. I've studied tradition techniques and mediums ranging from charcoal, to acrylic, to ceramic. In my studies of 2-D art I focused on charcoal while implimenting linear perspective, chiaroscuro, and compositional principles, all of which have heavily influenced my design choices and style. I have also extensively used inks for both art and caligraphic typography. I studied ceramics for a short but instensive period under Thom Lee, spending on average 7-8 hours a day, monday through friday, in the studio. I explored advanced firing techniques such as raku and naked raku, as well as assisting with kiln operation.
