Empyrean

About:

Empyrean was formed in 2018 by George Miller, Nicholas Spevak, Zach Horung, and Corey Barthels. They reside in Bellingham and have been crafting thoughtful music at an astonishing rate. The band originally began practicing in the same storage complex in which Aredux recorded Vaan War. They moved to a rehearsal space downtown after the storage company locked the power supply at the facility. Empyrean's style is folky and highly melodic, with Nicholas and Zach's intertwining guitar pieces and inspiring leads being held together nicely by George's bass lines. Their sound is reminiscent of Europe. Early on in the band's formation, Drajier played bass for the band, but George took over bass duties when the lineup solidified.

Releases:

Empyrean - Empyrean's debut release is a four-song EP, released in 2018. The mood is at times inspiring and at times melancholic. The lyrics are poetic and meaningful, and the drumming clearly takes some jazz influence and adds yet another layer of excellent musicianship to the band. The folky aspects of the music and beautiful nature of the guitar riffs gives the album a lighter atmosphere than a prototypical black metal album, and in some ways they transcend the genre in terms of the musical elements employed.
